cyberbullying

It is not that only kids become victim of Cyberbullying, even adults are not spared from becoming targets. As per a BBC news, social media sites like Facebook are often being used to abuse teachers. As per the media, a large section of the victims reported things like insulting comments, inappropriate behaviour and having photos circulated on the internet.

Many cyber experts say that it doesn’t matter whether you are 13 or 30 years, everyone can be deeply affected by any Cyberbullying incident.  There are incidents of victims going into depression due to extreme cyberbullying.  They can even go and take extreme steps like suicide attempts. Hence, cyberbullying is emerging as a big challenge before law enforcers.

How to remain safe from Cyberbullying?

  • Never post your personal information like your mobile number & email address on social media sites
  • Facebook and other social media accounts password should never be shared. Revisit the privacy settings of your social media accounts and adopt to latest security elements released by the social media companies.
  • Think carefully before you upload photos on websites as these can be easily downloaded and even morphed.
  • Instantly block users who are sending you offensive messages or emails.
  • Keep a proof of the messages you are receiving which are bullying in nature. You can take a screenshot of the same.
  • If you are being bullied instantly, try changing your basic details like profile id, picture or user name.

Cyberbullying is increasing as people find it easier to threaten and abuse others over the internet as they are able to hide their identity behind fake profiles. It’s important to report any such kind of cyberbullying activity if you feel you are getting affected. You can report any such incidents to the cyber-crime department of your country.
