What is GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, and the European Commission aim to unify & strengthen data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). It develops consistent data protection rules across Europe and applies to organizations who are based in the EU and global enterprises who process personal data about individuals in the EU. From 25th May 2018, this regulation has come into effect.

How do GDPR affect organizations?

If any organization is processing personal data of any individual in the EU, GDPR will be applicable even if you are not based in the EU. Apart from strengthening data privacy of the users, organizations need to be more responsible while handling EU citizens’ personal data regardless of the physical location of the organization.
