Every other day we hear about a new malware that emerged in the market and caused destruction which shows that cyber threats are increasingly becoming powerful. It is important to note that one of the most dangerous virus in the world has caused damage worth  $38.5 billion! Furthermore, if we look at the data of FBIs most wanted list of cyber criminals, then it is shocking to find that these individuals are responsible for consumer losses ranging from $350,000 to more than $100 million.

Clearly, it becomes evident that malicious content in any form can be dangerous for the economy of the world. With this, the need to understand malware, its functioning and ways to prevent malware attacks come into the picture.

What is Malware?

It’s an umbrella term that comprises all types of cyber threats including viruses, trojans, worms, adware, spyware, etc. The damage caused by a malware attack depends on the type of malware used and the person who executes the attack. Ransomware, for instance, attacks a computer machine, encrypt its data and ask for money to unlock the data.

How to Prevent Entry of Malware into your System?

With this, there are a number of steps that one should take to stay safe and free from malware:

  • Download anti malware software for PC and mobile as it provides real time protection. Make sure you have the licensed version of it.
  • Never disable your antivirus software as a single moment can become a golden opportunity for hackers.
  • Install software updates on your PC and mobile to ensure that you are using the most secure version.
  • Never share any kind of information, especially your passwords, with strangers over email or any other medium.
  • Do not click on suspicious links and attachments that are sent by random emails.
  • Download software only from credible sources and avoid downloading freeware and adware.

There’s no doubt to the fact that as soon as you get connected to the internet, a whole world of malicious software becomes ready to attack you.
