Soon after the new feature being launched, users of WhatsApp started receiving spam messages, which read \u201cYou’re invited to try WhatsApp Video Calling feature<\/strong>. Clicking on the link, users land to a spam website which appears to be extremely real as it contains screenshots very similar to the actual app. After the users land on the site, they are asked to tap on the \u2018Enable Video Calling\u2019 button<\/strong>. Next a series of messages pop up such as \u2018video calls activating service\u2019, \u2018receiving answer\u2019 and \u2018receiving verification link\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe next part is the \u2018User Verification\u2019 where the users should prove that they are active users of WhatsApp by inviting four friends and sharing the link in 4 active groups to activate video call in WhatsApp.<\/p>\n


\nThis occurs as a chain of spam messages being circulated among WhatsApp users. Clicking on this link, the user unknowingly exposes his or her phone to the spammer who can access the data stored in the device.<\/p>\n
